A new Paradigm in Art Education
Research Problem:
What art practice as research could look like in the class room?
Literature Review:
The sources as well as the article were neatly organized and easy to follow. One of the sources was a little dated, going back to 1961. However it and the other sources were still relevant. All sources were primary.
Research Question/Hypotheses:
The research question is also the problem: What does art practice as research look like in a class room?
Data Source/Sampling:
The study only really goes into depth on one student at Berkeley High School. They did look over her artwork, the research she wrote while working, and gathered statements from her as well. It later states they talked to other students and got a general conscientious from them but nothing else.
Measurement Tools:
They do not really state much on measurement tools, and if they do it is far to vague to easily pick up, probably due to the study being qualitative.
Methodology/Procedures:
No procedure into how they reached their conclusion was given other then the research on the one student. It should be noted that the students research was a process of describe, analyze, reflect, and connect. It is possible they used this in their own research to some extent.
Results/Discussion:
The article is easy to read and understand. Due to the minimal amount of data that was collected, this study should not be held as highly reliable. However, I do believe the researcher was on to something and think that more research with a much wider sample should be done.
