Statement of Problem:

There appears to be a stigma between the traditional and digital arts in levels of worth.

My goal is to find out how educators, regardless of teaching level, view these two forms in levels of worth. By collecting this data it might be possible to see if the stigma truly exists and possibly other correlations

Research Question and sub questions:

RQ: Do educators hold one form of art (digital or traditional) higher than the other or on equal footing?

SQ: Does a pattern exist between acceptance of some forms and age? Background? Primary medium used? Level education participant teaches at?

Related Research:

Literature: As of now no relating research has been done on this topic and I am still searching. However it should be noted that it is shown to be widely debated topic full of opnions.

Permissions:

Consent forms will be needed from all participants who partake in the study. Anonymity will need to be offered for those that wish to be interviewed or leave comments.

Data Sources:

Background surveys: explain what their background is, age, etc

Likert Scales: To obtain basic opinions on topics to obtain possible numerical data

Methods and Analysis:

I am interested to see if there is a correlation between age, education level taught, and primary medium to see if a pattern does exist. My goal is to gather enough data from a wide body of sources to see if it is really an issue and if so how it can be addressed.

Time Line:

The study would take approximately at least one year to fully complete.

Possible Findings:

I would like to document the quantitative data visually in graphs that would be most the most truthful to the data. While the qualitative could be expressed in writing, audio, or video recordings. My goal is to find out why the rift might exist and if so how all forms of art can be more widely accepted.

Dissemination:

Ways on how to best share my findings have still not been determined. Possibilities include but not limited to posting on a blog, writing an article for a research journal, or presenting it at some form of conference or other appropriate setting.

Budget:

Budget is still being determined. Applicable grants could be sought out. Cost will vary depending on if surveys will be given out either by mail or electronically as well as if interviews will be taken. As well as the need to try to determine other unknown factors that could change the final cost.
