Bird describes satirical as art that distorts recognizable figures enough to invoke laughter, but also to shine a light a disapproving light on them. He further goes on to call them a "moral agent" who removes the portrayed facade and reveals the truth. Finally Bird says satire is both reactive and constructive in that it is reacting to the things around it while also trying to help change and "construct" a better future.
I personally do not think that I will use satire in my own work. I find that personally I don't feel that the underlying message is strong enough, and that the humor aspect sometimes covers up the issue at hand. However I feel the need to say that I do not believe that satire in art is worthless, it is just not effective or "useful" in my own work.
